WALK IT OFF!

How a Short Walking Workout can be Fun, Easy, and Effective!

Walking for many has long been a favorite way to get into and stay in shape. Long distance walking at least 3 times a week gets the heart rate up and promotes stamina and flexibility. But if your busy lifestyle doesn't allow for the long distance adventure, you can benefit just as much from a quick and invigorating 10-minute indoor walk. What makes walking such a fantastic form of exercise is that it's low-impact, which means it’s gentle on your joints. Whether indoor or outdoor (whatever your personal preference) walking is also excellent for your heart health, gets your blood flowing, and it helps keep you strong and increases mobility.

For women over 60, if your doctor gives you the thumbs up to move around, you should definitely do it! Walking every day can make a big difference. It's great for increasing circulation in your legs, and even your arms. Plus, it keeps your skin glowing and your brain sharp. So, don’t just sit there – get up and get moving!

A 10-minute workout, done in 30-second intervals is great for beginners and seasoned walkers alike. Just remember, before doing any exercise, it’s important to warm up. Five to ten minutes of stretching those muscles and marching in place is ideal. This type of exercise can be done with or without equipment. If you have and prefer a treadmill, great! Just know that it's not a necessity to get your walk on!

As with any exercise regimen, make sure you check with you doctor first before engaging a new physical routine. Happy moving!
